I talked about some of what inspired me during the festival; from Liv Sansoz and her 82 4,000m peaks in the Alps, to David &amp; Harry Crerar and Bill Maurer and 80 peaks on Vancouver's North Shore. I encouraged the audience to find their own literal or figurative mountain challenge. I urged everyone to say &quot;yes&quot; to opportunities to connect with mountain legends such as the ones that happened earlier in the week with Doug Robinson and Kelly Cordes. Finally, I introduced one of my own climbing inspirations, Sasha DiGiulian whose message around her Canadian 5.14 Big Wall Trilogy is so in alignment with everything that I had been talking about all week. When not helping businesses with their profitability &amp; growth, or exploring mountains myself, I volunteer for a number of organizations including being Chair of VIMFF. VIMFF celebrates outdoor adventure and mountain culture through film, photography, presentations, and workshops. VIMFF brings communities together and creates a platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences between filmmakers, artists, outdoor enthusiasts, and the public.&lt;br&gt;&lt;/br&gt; &lt;/div&gt;

This was my opening night welcome to inspire adventurous thought and action for the betterment of people and the planet. I give a shout out to some of my VIMFF colleagues who have inspired me, like Brent &amp; James from Mind Vs Mountain and talk about some of the inspiring experiences I have had, such as camping underneath the aurora borealis outside of Yellowknife, and going to the Lillooet Ice Climbing Festival.&lt;br&gt;&lt;/br&gt; &lt;/div&gt;

Then it&amp;rsquo;s time to think about team empowerment! In this video, I talk about the importance of teamwork in an organization. Building an effective team lets you work more efficiently and get more accomplished, which in turn grows your business. In the beginning stages of your business, you as the founder probably filled every role yourself. It was your great idea and your entrepreneurial spirit that led to the creation of your company. Although you may have done the initial work to put your business together, you can benefit from help going forward. Here&amp;rsquo;s where the importance of teamwork in an organization comes in. To encourage the expansion of your business, you have to shift some of the responsibility that you&amp;rsquo;ve shouldered from the start. The transition can be difficult. You may be reluctant to share the workload or to put results into the hands of others. Instead of holding onto control for dear life, let others take the lead and demonstrate their own expertise. Your team members are skilled in areas where you may be weak. As your team members efficiently tackle their assigned tasks, you&amp;rsquo;ll be free to focus on the particular work that you do well. When you practice team empowerment, you&amp;rsquo;re no longer alone in looking out for your business &amp;ndash; you get a dedicated group of highly capable people who are also responsible for your success. What&amp;rsquo;s the importance of teamwork in an organization? What&amp;rsquo;s the value of team empowerment? Here is what effective teamwork by an empowered team looks like: Dedicated, motivated team members who make unique, valuable contributions and are collectively invested in outcomes.&lt;br&gt;&lt;/br&gt; &lt;/div&gt;

In this video, I talk about the importance of adjusting your mindset when you&amp;rsquo;re invested in making ideas happen and moving ahead. The early days of your business are exciting &amp;ndash; they&amp;rsquo;re filled with entrepreneurial spirit, the creative juices are flowing, and everyone seems to embrace a turn-on-a-dime mentality. But all that great brainstorming can amount to nothing unless your business works to implement its ideas. To increase business, it&amp;rsquo;s necessary to turn your abstract concepts into concrete products or services that you can then offer to the marketplace. How do you get traction to implement your ideas instead of letting them languish? Put systems and structures into place. Establish a set of procedures and best practices that can guide you in getting things done. Spend some time and energy on action rather than thought. Here&amp;rsquo;s where the mindset of your entrepreneurial business leaders comes into play. Many creative types feel stifled by the routine nature of day-to-day operations. They are more interested in pursuing whims and are afraid to miss out on new notions. They&amp;rsquo;re less concerned about making ideas happen and might even stand in the way. The solution is to broaden the mindset of your business to include both creativity and productivity. You can get traction for growth if you divvy up responsibilities -- free up the thinkers to do what they do best, while you trust a dedicated team of go-getters to take ideas and run with them. Alignment is very important when it comes to business growth. In order to get everyone to move in the same direction, you need them to understand the company's core values and have a clear vision of the goal. There are a number of steps necessary to achieve alignment, such as collectively taking stock of how things are, asking how things should be, brainstorming and compiling ideas, and planning for implementation. When you establish a vision that takes into consideration the ideas of your team members, you have a better chance of achieving that vision. Everyone contributes, the ideas are compiled, and the aligned team is invested in a common goal. Aligning a team&amp;rsquo;s values empowers decision making in the workplace as everyone can be trusted to act with the company&amp;rsquo;s best interests in mind. Here&amp;rsquo;s how you can begin to focus on the correct actions that will move your business forward. 1) Assemble your decision-makers and take stock. Where is your business right now in comparison to your strategic objectives? It&amp;rsquo;s important to be honest and look at this in an impartial way. 2) Create an anonymous survey. Ask your team for their thoughts on how to improve company performance, for example, what projects would they like to work on? Can they pinpoint any areas of inefficiency? What activities do they feel offer the highest potential for growth? 3) Go through all responses and find patterns and themes in their answers. 4) Show everyone that you acknowledge their opinions in a special focus session. Guide everyone through projects and growth ideas and draw up their thoughts. Whilst doing this it&amp;rsquo;s important to remember that there are no right or wrong answers. Within all this newly compiled data will be golden nuggets that, if implemented will help you to achieve sustainable business growth. List your options and criteria in a matrix and assign values as to how each option meets each criteria. Ranking and prioritizing each objective helps to keep everyone focused when they are prioritizing their work moving forward. Remember to set strategic objectives and follow up on them. Hitting these objectives will ensure your team feel a sense of pride and satisfaction, and that will take your company a long way!
